“Sugar, Oh Honey Honey….. you are my candy girl and you got me wanting you!”

This is the song has been playing in my head for the past week. It continually amazes me at just how much sugar plays such an integral part in our daily lives…from so many foods we consume, to how it wreaks havoc in our bodies by creating inflammation that can manifest itself into so many illnesses and diseases….all of which are preventable, simply by reducing or taking out the processed sugars from our daily meals.

We have become familiar with the fact that sugar has a direct link to Diabetes, but did you also realize that sugar is a main culprit with Hypertension/High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Heart Disease, Hormonal Imbalances, Metabolic Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Sleep Disorders, Anxiety, Excess Visceral Fat, Obesity and even Alzheimer’s?  There is no mistake that we have an Obesity Epidemic in this country and our children have become the “biggest” victims….literally!

Take a look at this statistic…

In 1980, there were 0 reported cases of children with Type 2 Diabetes.
In 2010, over 57,600 children have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and the term Adult Onset Diabetes is no longer used because of it. (“Fed Up” Documentary 2014)
This, in my humble opinion, is a travesty!  Please start looking at your labels in your home and see how many things contain sugar. Then take my challenge, add up the number of teaspoons of sugar per day you are consuming.  I think you will be surprised.  Remember that 4 grams of sugar does not seem like very much right?  Well, 4 grams of sugar equals 1 teaspoon of sugar.  Start counting and see what you come up with for yourself and your family members.  Please share with me, as I’d love to hear about your experiences.

So back to Whole30…

Day 5 and still going strong. Well, sort of… The body is truly an amazing thing and the detox has been very interesting to say the least. Personally, I have not had any real terrible bouts with cravings; however the general consensus is, that some folks are experiencing them, but overall not as badly as we all expected.  Some people have reported some fatigue and lower energy.  Others, have reported clearer thinking, improved energy and an overall “feeling good”. But the best news, is that most everyone has generally NOT BEEN HUNGRY!   We’ve been able to keep our minds more focused towards healthier things.  One person even reported a significant increase in libido! Hmmmm that could be a nice distraction!!!   This weekend will be one of the true tests as weekends typically present gatherings with friends and family, eating out and extra time and we are only in Day 5.  Don’t be afraid to reach out as we will definitely need our support team this weekend…this could prove itself to be a tough couple of days!

As Friday Night has come and gone, we all made it!!! Yay! We ROCK!!!!

My weekend will include more planning for the coming week of meals and incorporating some of the great suggestions given to me from my clients and friends.  Below you will see what “we” have all shared thus far. Please feel free to share your pics and recipes as well…we’ll take all the creatively delicious ideas we can get…thanks for sharing!
